  • "Glorious Gold Christmas" Demonstration by Ms Caroline Loo AIFD, 29 Nov 2015
    A showcase of various techniques were demonstrated in uniquely composed designs which suited Christmas theme and other applications as well.

  • "IPBI Floral Symposium - Evolution", 19 Nov 2015 Jakarta
    Members Christina Pang and Harijanto Setiawan represented FDSS in the biannual floral symposium organised by Indonesia Floral Arrangers Association. This reflects the close ties which both organisations have built and will strive to continue the exchange of floristry expertise and friendship through such educational programs.

  • "World Flower Council Asia Pacific Summit - Bangkok", 16 - 18 Oct 2015
    An entourage of FDSS members together with FDSS President Peter Chin supported this event by staging the Bridal Bouquet Feature Show as well as other floral categories like table decor, competition and floor display. This was an excellent platform for our members to network with designers around the world. Not to mention, the team was truly inspired by works of other designers and pick up creative techniques.

  • "From the Garden to the Table" Demonstration & Workshop by Donna Au and Elizabeth Kerk, 12 Sep 2015
    A range of floral designs incorporating vegetables were presented to the delight of the audience who visited the Community Garden Fest held at HortPark.

  • "Red & White Affair" Demonstration & Workshop by Harijanto Setiawan, 15 August 2015
    One of our very own floral extraordinaire wowed attendees with a display of floral works that brought out the best in artistry and flower appreciation. The workshop thereafter challenged the attendees to design and create something using bamboo as a base.

  • "Epitome of Love" Floral Exhibition @Royal Plaza on Scotts, 7 - 10 May 2015
    This floral art exhibition is staged as a tribute to Mothers and in celebration of Mother's Day. A showcase of floral works ranging from table designs to free-standing displays were put up by members of the society and featured the use of carnations - a symbolic flower associated with Mother's Day.

  • "FDSS Dream Ball 2015 - where dreams come alive", 19 April 2015
    The long awaited floral extravaganza returned to the catwalk featuring a total of 36 awe-inspiring floral haute-couture and delivered floral finesse beyond the wildest dreams. All were bewildered and amazed how flowers, fashion, artistry and imagination merged into a kaleidoscope of floral hues and creativity. FDSS is truly indebted and grateful to all overseas designers, members, associates in the floral industry and many other organisations who helped delivered the floral showcase and made our "dreams do come true".

  • "Sparkling White Christmas", 6 December 2014
    The annual Christmas do had a great turnout at the Shangri-la Garden Terrace. Attendees came in festive sparkle and colours to kick-off Advent celebration. A bazaar of fancy Christmassy things attracted early-Christmas shopping with entertainment provided by our very own 'Santarina'. Besides the high-tea spread, all were treated to an amazing floral presentation by Andy Djati Utomo AIFD (Indonesia) who shared the technical secrets behind his creations. Creativity continued as each table was tasked to make a Christmas tree using balloons. For lucky draw, everyone had to dig into a marshmallow for the lucky M&M in order to win a prize.

  • 9th International FDSS Cup Floral Designing Competition,  16 August 2014
    This live competition was held in conjunction with the Singapore Garden Festival at a new site, Gardens by the Bay. An overwhelming turnout with 49 participants competed in Professional and Amateur categories. An elated Edward Khoo from Malaysia won the top prize in Amateur category whilst Pan Lei from China clinched the top prize in the Professional category. The distinguished jury panel included Alex Segura (Spain), Alison Bradley (UK), Joe Massie (UK), Franca Logan (NZ), Phubast Chesdmethee (Thailand) and SongDDak (Korea).

  • "Floral Art Installations @National Museum Singapore", 10 - 16 April 2014
    It was a privilege and honour for FDSS to be invited by National Heritage Board to stage a collection of floral pieces in conjunction with their exhibition on Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) in relation to the application for SBG to be instituted as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The exhibition titled 'More than a Garden' gave our members an excellent platform to design and create four awesome displays inspired by SBG's iconic bandstand, Tanglin gate, Burkill Hall and Orchid Garden.

  • "Yogjakarta Trip", 28 - 30 March 2014
    A total of 34 members, family and friends had the most enjoyable and memorable weekend at this ancient capital of Indonesia. Each meal was uniquely different and more sumptuous with this company. The scotching weather did not dampen our spirits as we visited the Royal Palace, scaled Borobudor, sipped Luwak coffee and did bargain-shopping. The highlight was still indeed the 'Treasure Hunt' which had the teams scurrying through Malioboro's busy shopping belt amid showers.

  • "Leave-weaving Workshop by Lily H. Sutanto", 16 March 2014
    FDSS members and friends were treated to an afternoon of "nifty coconut leaf weaving" under the tutelage of Lily - who was so generous and warm in imparting this traditional art. However, Lily also showcased stunning floral presentations on how to incorporate this traditional artform.

  • "Wishing Upon A Star", 24 November 2013
    With Advent just round the corner, the "house" was full at Shangri-la Garden Terrace as starry-eyed members, family and friends gathered for a Christmas Luncheon. The traditional Gift-exchange was given a twist in that everyone had to bring a table floral or decor. The early afternoon kicked off with a "starry" presentation by Christina Pang AIFD, Christopher Lim AIFD and Christiane Duckworth. The three Chris's delighted the crowd with their own rendition of Advent and Christmas floral works revolving around the "STAR" theme and festive colour palette. After a sumptuous lunch spread, it was "Rise and Shine" time as each table had to create a headpiece to be modeled by someone from the table. The luncheon ended all too soon with a "bang" - each person had to prick a balloon to get the number for their gift-exchange.

  • "Floral Structures for Commercial Work" Demonstration/Workshop, 25 August 2013
    All attendees were treated to a session of "fantabulous" structural work presented none other by Arthur Chua AIFD - an extraordinaire in transforming basic plant materials into works of art. The presentation was also enriched by Arthur's sharing of using golden rule ratios and selection of flowers that were ideal for weekly arrangements in hotels and offices. Seeing was one thing and doing the structure yourself was another, as experienced by the attendees who got down to creating their personal works after Arthur's showcase. Kudos to Arthur for showing us the way forward to practical commercial floristry.

  • "Summer Lover" Program, 5 May 2013
    This hot Saturday afternoon saw 47 members, floral enthusiasts and friends gathering together to enjoy a spicy lunch spread and watching a floral showcase presented by senior members Rona Ee AIFD and Zoe Ong AIFD. Smiles and oohs ... were heard as designs using hats. coconuts and tree trunks were rolled out - reminiscent of a day by the beach. The hands-on session got everyone excited as they crafted their personal handheld fan and embellished it with foliage and cheerful flowers. One lucky attendee walked away with the 2-day workshop by Hitomi Gilliam, generously sponsored by RiFA.

  • Bandung Escapade, 12-14 April 2013
    A wonderful long weekend spent in Bandung by members and their family. Joining the Singapore entourage were Lily Sutanto from Jakarta; and from Bandung Winny Hernawaty and Okky Rantow who are members of the Indonesia Floral Arrangers Association. Special thanks to our Indonesia friends who ensured all a marvellous treat of local snacks, fruits and Sudanese cuisine. The program was tightly filled with visits to a cacti and succulent nursery and Tangkuban Perahu (an active volcano crater); watching and participating in Anklung performance and intense bargain-shopping. The highlight was a treasure hunt held right in the crowds of a supermarket at a shopping mall. Lily Sutanto also demonstrated several techniques of manipulating coconut leaves into various forms during the Sunday breakfast. Everyone enjoyed this brief escapade tremendously especially the great company and friendship!

  • Christmas Celebration, 2 Dec 2012
    The ambience was just right at “The Bar”, Raffles Town Club as members and friends gathered to kick-off the season of Advent. Senior members Margaret Lui and Arthur Chua AIFD wowed the audience with great Christmas decor ideas. The highlight of the afternoon was the hands-on session where everyone made their own floral “vases” using garden hose and cable ties. The program was finally complete with a generous spread of high-tea and a Christmas gift-exchanged to bring home.

  • Trim-a-tree @Singapore Botanic Gardens, December 2012
    Once again, FDSS participated in this annual tradition organized by the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Zoe Ong AIFD was the mastermind behind the dazzling yellow and orange trimmings – a reflection of Singapore as a sunny tropical isle in the season of Christmas.

  • “The Making of a Bamboo Container”,  29 Sep 2012
    Peter Chin, current FDSS Vice-President conducted this workshop on how to construct a container from bamboo. Attendees were seen chiseling and hammering the bamboo poles to transform it into their personal bamboo vessel. Smiley faces were evident as they brought home their pieces in spite of the physically demanding process.

  • ITE Student Outreach Program 25 July 2012 & ITE Fiesta 26 -  27 August 2012
    Members Elizabeth Kerk, Florence Koh, Lucy Siah AIFD, Margaret Lui, Peter Chin and Rona Ee AIFD conducted a flowers-to-wear session as part of FDSS collaboration with ITE in their efforts to promote the new NITEC Floristry course to school leavers.

    The two-day ITE Open House was held at ITE East Campus in Simei. Members Peter Chin, Thong Weng Seng, Margaret Lui, Catherine Ng and Christina Pang AIFD spent the two days showcasing floral art and got students involved in on-site hands-on.

  • 8th International FDSS Cup Floral Designing Competition,  8 July 2012
    This bi-annual competition which was held in conjunction with the Singapore Garden Festival at Suntec Singapore drew a total of 32 floral enthusiasts in the Amateur category and 12 designers in the Professional category. Mr. Lam Chun Yu from Macau took home the coveted top prize in the Amateur category whilst Singaporean Ms. Hamidah bte Abdul Karim won the champion prize in the Professional category. The jury panel consisted of four international judges and FDSS President Christopher Lim AIFD.

  • The FDSS Dream Ball, 30 March 2012
    This much-awaited ball was held at Furama Riverfront Singapore which saw an attendance of more than 320 guests from the floral community. The floral extravaganza delivered true to its name - an evening of stunning floral wear created by a total of 20 designers comprising members and designers from Indonesia, Macau and Japan. Guests were mesmerized by the inspirational works from demonstrators Damien Koh AIFD PFCI and Arthur Chua AIFD, gorgeous centerpieces, dinner courses peppered with floral décor; and finale floral dessert.

  • Corsage Workshop, 26 February 2012
    This workshop was another hands-on session for members to pick up alternative techniques to create pin-on corsages. More than 20 people attended the workshop and brought home lots of ideas and inspirations for corsage work. The creations were finally on display at the FDSS Dream Ball.

  • Trim-a-tree @Singapore Botanic Gardens, December 2011
    In support of this garden event, FDSS organized two hands-on sessions for members to be involved in creating the ‘trimmings’ for the tree. The tree-trimming was led by Elizabeth Kerk with several fellow members converging at the Botanic Gardens to adorn the tree.

  • Exhibitor @World Orchid Conference, 13 to 20 November 2011
    FDSS participated as an exhibitor under the Tabletop display category. Harijanto Setiawan conceptualized the design using paphiopedilum orchids and executed the display with assistance from this staff. FDSS is truly thankful for his time and contribution. The display - an eye-catching sight of acrylic, light, water with exotic orchids was finely awarded a Bronze medal.

  • FDSS Family Getaway to Historic Malacca, 29 to 30 October 2011
    This was a first-ever Family Day activity organized for members and their families. A total of 29 people joined this weekend trip – feasting on famous Malaccan “chicky balls, peranakan cuisine”, went “gaga” over the treasure hunt; got transported to scenes in historic Malacca; and tremendously enjoyed the great camaraderie of one another’s company. Thanks to Harijanto Setiawan for the meticulous planning of the trip; everyone had a most terrific time and is already looking forward to the next trip.

  • “Makeover – techniques, materials and more”,  16 October 2011
    This afternoon tea do was held at Raffles Town Club. FDSS Vice-President Peter Chin, who was the emcee kept everyone tuned in the entire afternoon. The awesome program included floral presentations by Christina Pang AIFD, Lily Sutanto and Thong Weng Seng who presented an exceptional showcase of floristry at its best. All of the designers show pieces were auctioned off which is a testimonial to the exquisite floral work. Attendees had a hands-on session where they created a floral design using plastic tubes, fibre and wires. It was a truly enjoyable program judging from the smiles of those who attended.

  • “ITE Fiesta”, 18 & 19 September 2011
    ITE College Central sought the involvement of FDSS to present floral demonstrations in support of their effort to promote the new NITEC Floristry course. The 2-day Open House was held at ITE College West. Members Christopher Lim AIFD, Christina Pang AIFD, Elizabeth Kerk, Margaret Lui, Peter Chin and Thong Weng Seng wowed the visitors with a floral showcase of their very own signature pieces. VIPs who visited the booth included Ministers Gan Kim Yong and Dr Amy Khor.

  • Green Thumbs ‘Floristry Skills Championship’, 11 September 2011
    This event co-organized by National Parks Board (CUGE), floral associations and Nobleman Floral Design Institute held at West Coast Park was opened to graduates of the Singapore WDA’s WSQ Floristry framework. Awards were given out in two categories, namely Floral Arranger and Best Florist of the Year. FDSS was tasked to plan and organize the flowers for the live competition whilst FDSS President Christopher Lim AIFD was invited as a judge in the jury panel.

  • “Stringed Botanical” – 27 March 2011 @Fort Canning
    A floral showcase and hands-on session presented by one of our multi-talented members from Indonesia, floral artist Andy Djati Utomo AIFD.

  • “The Advent of a Glorious Christmas” – 28 November 2010
    marked the coming of Christmas with a celebration of flowers in yuletide spirit and feasting – all right in the midst of a floral ‘paradise’ @Sing See Soon Floral and Landscape in Punggol. Members Margaret Lui and Rona Ee AIFD presented floral ideas to ring in festive cheer.

  • Green Thumbs ‘Floristry Skills Championship’ – 4 September 2010
    This event headed by National Parks Board (CUGE) in collaboration with the local floral associations was held at Pasir Ris Park. FDSS was involved in co-ordinating the flowers and materials and co-run the competition. A big “THANK YOU” to committee members June Foo AIFD, Pauline Chin, Margaret Lui and Rona Ee AIFD who helped in the logistics during the competition and also to members who rose to the challenge of the skills championship.

  • “The Green Transfrondmation” Floral Windows to the World Singapore Garden Festival 2010
    The floral display led by Madeleine Woo AIFD was not only an eye-catching showcase of floristry, botanicals and tremendous effort but received the outstanding support and teamwork of members and students of CreativeWorkz. The Bronze reward was befitting for the long hours spent in the entire preparation works that took place from the beginning to the set-up days at Suntec. Kudos to the whole team for their invaluable contribution towards FDSS!

  • Floral Presentations @Singapore Garden Festival 2010
    Visitors to the SGF 2010 were also treated to a floral showcase presented by our members Peter Chin, Arthur Chua AIFD and Ineke Turangan AIFD (Indonesia) on various days.  Many were inspired by their floral artistry and ideas.

  • “Palmistry – where palms meet floristry” - 13 June 2010
    This hands-on workshop attracted members and floral enthusiasts to learn the technique of palm-leaf plaiting. This was a prelude to the SGF – Floral Windows exhibit to engage the attendees to come aboard the “behind-the-scenes” action of the floral display.

  • “Trees of the World Light-up” – was a community program organized by Singapore Botanic Gardens as part of their 150th Anniversary celebration. A team comprising Christiane Duckworth, Dorine Teo, Florence Koh, Peter Chin, Pauline Chin, Lucy Siah, Madeleine Woo, Margaret Lui and Christina Pang got together to create the unique décor and finally trimmed the tree on 2 December 2009. Overheard were praises and compliments that our FDSS tree was beautifully decorated.

  • “A Scarlet Christmas” on 21 November 2009 at the Raffles Town Club. 55 attendees enjoyed an afternoon with floral demonstrations by Christiane Duckworth and Lucy Siah AIFD and a fun hands-on session delightfully presented by Christopher Lim AIFD.

  • Green Thumbs Floristry Skills Championship –  August 2009 attracted floral arrangers and professional florists. Congratulations to Christiane Duckworth who received an award for her work during the competition.
